Greetings March 1, 2002
Recently there has been a renewed interest in the preservation of our fine local trail at the Crossroads Industrial Park in Fort Pierce, Florida. On the forum at www.clubscrub.org there has been rumor circulating about the posting of no trespassing signs, and therefore of trail closure and also some early discussion about what could be done to prevent this from occurring.
Many of us who ride the trail and who volunteer our time and money to maintain the trial are willing to get involved in the effort to preserve the trail. While those rumors of the past few weeks were untrue, the fact is that such an occurrence is possible. The way things are presently means that the company that owns access to the trail could close the access at any time.
At this time, I have selected those of you who I have met at the trail who are interested, those of you who have called me and expressed interest, those who have been involved in the building of and maintaining of the trail in the past, and also those who expressed interest on the forums on the internet.
I would greatly appreciate your reply to this message returned to me via e-mail. Your reply should include your name, address and phone number. Your reply should also include the names and e-mail addresses or phone numbers for the interested and motivated people I may have omitted.
It is my single purpose to see that this trail becomes and remains a preserve, where riders and people who enjoy the natural beauty of the place can go, hopefully forever. We should not be deterred as a group, by any obstacles, personal or political difference, or views on outside matters. That is to say – My objective and therefore our objective is to see this land remain a wooded trail, accessible by all who care to ride there, without fear of loss or legal action.
I prefer to conduct our affairs via meetings ( I saw mentioned the Blake Library), via telephone, via regular mail, and via e-mail. No method of communication should be ignored.
If any of you has information for Cliff Barnes, please forward it to me as well. He is a rider and a councilman.
There are discussions with South Florida Water Management already underway, as well as with the city of Fort Pierce.
I hope you are well, and interested in this project. I will not stop until this is done.
Sincerely,
Bill Klausmeyer
