Hey folks,
Sorry about the delay. On April 27th a second meeting took place at the Martin County Library to continue the discussion of local off-road cycling access and saving the Fort Pierce Trail (Crossroads Trail). We had about 18 in attendance!
Topics of discussion were the formation of a club or joining an existing club, the TCCA. Newsletters from other clubs were provided for information. A vote was taken to see if we should form a new club or join the TCCA. An unanimous vote was in favor of joining the TCCA which is a Florida Bicycle Association member. The problem existing now with started a club from the bottom up is volunteers. Volunteers are always a problem weather it is trail work of serving on the board of such a club. The Fort Pierce Trail website has a poll you can help us decide. Visit the website to get info at the next meeting!
Also discussed was a letter writing campaign that must continue! I spoke with county commissioner Cliff Barnes at the Fort Pierce trail on April 27th about the letters. He did receive quite a few letters but most were from out of the area! Most of the letters came from the advocates around the state that read about this campaign on the FBA listserver. We need more local letters to be written, Cliff said to email may them to all the commissioners at once, here is the link: Email All the Commissioners
Cliff's comment the trail acquisition was extremely positive!
Also we discussed the agencies that need to be contacted and landowner approval for the current situation.
